Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal & Derngate’s touring production of King John arrives at the Bankside venue to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.

Richard the Lionheart is dead. John, his less than heroic brother, is determined to keep his grasp on the English throne, despite the stronger claims of his nephew, the young Prince Arthur. Increasingly threatened by Arthur’s supporters at home and in France, John finds the answer to his woes: he will blind the boy with hot irons.

Directed by James Dacre, the production sees a large company of actors and musicians explore a tangled world of ruthless politicking and fatal power struggles.
