Orlando Bloom returns to the West End to star as a cop who moonlights as a killer-for-hire in the blackly comic thriller, Killer Joe.
The Smith family hatch a plan to murder their estranged matriarch for her insurance money. They hire Joe Cooper, a police detective and part-time contract killer, to do the job. But once he enters their trailer home and comes face to face with their innocent daughter, the plan spirals out of control…
Orlando stars as the murderous Killer Joe. This is the first time Orlando will be on stage in the West End for a decade. He’s best known for playing Legolas in Lord Of The Rings and Will Turner in Pirates Of The Carribean.
Joining Orlando will be Sophie Cookson as the young and innocent Dottie, Adam Gillen as the conniving Chris, Neve McIntosh as Chris’ step-mother Sharla and Steffan Rhodri as Chris’ father Ansel.
Sophie is making her West End debut in Killer Joe. She was most recently seen on television in the Netflix Original series Gypsy. Adam was most recently seen on stage in the title role of Amadeus at the National Theatre, in both its original and returning 2018 run. Neve was last seen on stage in Meet Me at Dawn in the 2017 Edinburgh International Festival. Her further theatre credits include King Lear at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Proof at Perth Theatre and The Merchant of Venice at the Royal Lyceum Theatre. Steffan’s theatre credits include Woyzeck and The Hairy Ape at The Old Vic, This House at the Garrick Theatre, Posh at the Duke of York Theatre and Absent Friends at The Harold Pinter Theatre.
Killer Joe is written by the multi-award-winning Tracy Letts, who also penned the film of the same name. He is also the brain behind The Minutes, Linda Vista, Mary Page Marlowe, Superior Donuts, August: Osage County (Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award), Man From Nebraska (Pulitzer Prize finalist), and Bug. As an actor, he won a Tony Award for his turn in Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?.
A tense, gut-twisting thriller, Killer Joe, directed by Simon Evans (The Dazzle and Bug at Found111, The Best Man) asks where the moral line is drawn in the fight for survival.
Killer Joe plays a strictly limited 13-week season from Friday 18 May – Saturday 18 August at Trafalgar Studio 1.
