Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti’s warm and funny new play Khandan (Family) about tradition and ambition tells the story of a Punjabi family living in Britain.
Set in the Gill family living room, Khandan (Family) charts the tale of the Gill family. Widowed matriarch Jeeto, who has a strong sense of her past and principles, has spent her life working hard and making sacrifices for her children. But her eldest son Pal, who is struggling with his role as the head of the household, is not following in her footsteps.
Crumbling under the weight of his father’s legacy, the family business is put at risk and the last remaining link to their roots in the Punjab is in jeopardy.
Khandan (Family) is a co-production with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and is directed by the Birmingham’s venue’s Artistic Director Roxana Silbert.
