RC Sherriff’s World War I drama Journey’s End is a touching, humorous and highly-acclaimed look at life in the trenches.
Journey’s End is set in the British trenches at St Quentin in 1918, where, in the days leading up to the last great German offensive of the First World War, a company of officers prepare for a daring raid across No Man’s Land to gather intelligence.
Based on the author’s own experience of the front and life in the trenches, Journey’s End celebrates humour and courage in the face of certain tragedy, and remains an important reminder of the horrors of war and the real, unromanticised heroes who fought it.
This production of Journey’s End, directed by David Grindley, was first seen in the West End in 2004, when it caught both critics and audiences by surprise, winning unanimous praise and transferring between three different theatres.
Following its London engagement, Journey’s End will continue on its current UK tour.
