The final piece written by Simon Gray in response to his dark comedy Japes, Missing Dates looks at the same story from a different angle.
Siblings Michael and Jason, also known as Japes, have been as close as brothers can be even since the accidental death of their parents when the pair were teenagers. The house they inherited – part playground, part shrine – has remained the same ever since. Everything changes, however, when Michael falls in love with Anita and a passionate triangle develops.
When playwright Simon Gray finished writing original play Japes, he felt the characters could have made different choices, so he began work on Japes Too. Worrying that he had only told one side of the story he wrote Michael. With the characters still playing on his mind, he wrote Missing Dates.
All four plays previously ran in rep for the first time at the Hampstead Theatre Downstairs.
