Verdi ’s music, glorious singing, spectacular settings and great drama; Il Trovatore returns with all the colour and passion that has made it one of the most popular of all operas.
The Royal Opera’s acclaimed production of Il Trovatore sets the story of blazing love, jealousy and revenge against the political tensions of 19th century Italy using the epic style of Visconti’s cinema, realised in grandly scaled sets and rich costumes.
Fuelled by raids and rescues, prisoners and poisons, Il Trovatore is a tense story that races inexorably towards a final tragic revelation; while the rebel leader Manrico and his lover Leonora battle against the predatory plans of Conte di Luna, the gypsy Azucena keeps a dark secret.
Il Trovatore’s cast of internationally acclaimed and award-winning singers includes Roberto Alagna and Walter Fraccaro sharing the role of Manrico with Sondra Radvanovsky as the doomed object of his love.
With Carlo Rizzi conducting, Il Trovatore makes for an evening of powerful voices alongside grand emotions in grand settings.
