Developed through the Royal Court’s new writing project in South Africa and co-produced with Johannesburg’s Market Theatre, I See You tells the true story of a young student in the post-Apartheid epoch.
After dark, Ben meets friend Skinn for a night out. But the party is interrupted by police, and Ben is accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Officer Buthelezi, a former freedom fighter who can’t let go of his experiences, confronts Ben, who is entirely unaware of his own history.
Based on a real encounter, and featuring the directorial debut of Olivier Award-winning actor Noma Dumezweni, I See You highlights the struggles of a new generation of South Africans in light of their country’s traumatised past.
