Frightful First World War is the latest installment in Terry Deary’s hugely popular Horrible Histories series. As with previous adaptations, Birmingham Stage Company brings the story to the stage using 3D Bogglevision, giving young audiences the chance to see what WW1 was really like.
Frightful First World War follows 13-year-old Angelica Taylor, who gets sucked into the Horrible Histories website until she has travelled through the five years of the First World War.
The show includes 3D scenes depicting the sinking of the Lusitania, trench rats jumping into the auditorium and tanks rumbling into the stalls. Theatregoers will also experience what it was like to go over the top, facing a hailstorm of bullets and mortars in no man’s land.
Frightful First World War is suitable for ages 11+
This show is presented alongside Woeful Second World War.
