How happily married are the happily married? Laura Wade’s fizzing comedy Home, I’m Darling centres on one woman’s quest to be the perfect 1950s housewife.

Having first premiered at the Emlyn Williams Theatre at Theatr Clwyd in July 2018, where it was nominated for the UK Theatre Award for Best New Play, Home, I’m Darling then enjoyed a celebrated National Theatre run. The show subsequently transferred to London’s West End, where it was named Best New Comedy at the 2019 Olivier Awards with Mastercard.

Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Humans) reprises her role as Judy as Home, I’m Darling plays a limited run at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

Every couple needs a little fantasy to keep their marriage sparkling and squeaky clean. And for Judy and Johnny, in what seems like a dream 1950s home, all is well. But, when the gingham curtains are drawn back, it’s easy to see things starting to unravel – perhaps being a domestic goddess isn’t as easy as it seems…

Joining Parkinson in reprising their roles are Richard Harrington, as husband Johnny, and Sara Gregory, as Johnny’s boss Alex. The cast is completed by Charlie Allen, Susan Brown (Sylvia), Ellie Burrow, Siubhan Harrison, Jane MacFarlane and Hywel Morgan. Theatre Clywd Artistic Director Tamara Harvey directs.

Playwright Laura Wade’s previous work includes Posh at the Royal Court and in West End, which was later turned into the film The Riot Club for which she wrote the screenplay.
