Celebrating the 100th anniversary of its first UK production, Harold Brighouse’s classic comedy Hobson’s Choice is revived at the Vaudeville Theatre, starring the acclaimed actor Martin Shaw.
Centring on the iconic comedy role of Henry Horatio Hobson, it tells the story of a character who is a self-made man, shopkeeper, skinflint and boozer, often proving both a tyrant to his daughters and a law unto himself.
But Hobson finds the tables have been turned when Maggie, his eldest daughter, defies his wishes to marry Will Mossop, his own boot-maker. Thus begins the ultimate battle of wills, with his customers, girls and, most importantly, pride, at stake – can he commit to making Hobson’s choice?
A wonderfully witty, warm and hilarious classic comedy, beloved across its century on the stage, this new production stars screen and stage icon Shaw, most famous for television roles such as Inspector George Gently, and on stage recently in Twelve Angry Men.
