Following the success of 2012’s Julius Caesar, Phyllida Lloyd returns to the Donmar Warehouse with an all-female Henry IV. Stars Harriet Walter.

Rolling together two of Shakespeare’s great plays, Henry IV Part I and Henry IV Part II, Lloyd’s Henry IV asks what makes a King and what makes a father?

As King Henry IV comes to the end of his time on the throne a weight of expectation falls on his son, the irresponsible prince Hal, to step into his father’s shoes. Can the young prince leave behind childishness and become a man? And what will happen to his old drinking buddy Falstaff?

Walter, who boasts a host of stage credits for the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, returns to the Donmar Warehouse where she has previously appeared in Julius Caesar and Mary Stuart. Walter plays Henry in the production.

Walter is joined by former Julius Caesar co-stars Clare Dunne, who plays Hal, and Jade Anouka, who plays Hotspur.

Falstaff is played by Ashley McGuire, previously seen in Home at the National Theatre.
