The Royal Opera’s Christmas treat is the famous fairytale Hansel And Gretel in a tuneful opera by Engelbert Humperdinck.
The opera features all the elements you would expect: atmospheric forest sounds, the songs of the children as they venture into the forest, the wicked witch and her scary kitchen where the children get baked into biscuits.
Though the images may be disturbing for the youngest of family members, the story has a happy ending and this production is a great way for all the family to enjoy the thrill of opera.
Sung in German with English surtitles.
