The National Theatre’s hilarious hit satire about the press, the police and the political establishment, Great Britain tells the story of Paige Britain, the youthful, determined News Editor of The Free Press, a tabloid newspaper embroiled in a seemingly endless war to gain more readers than its rivals.

Written by Richard Bean, who also penned previous hit National Theatre comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, the original run of Great Britain at the National’s South Bank home was announced just days before it opened.

Similarly, its transfer to the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket was announced just days after it opened at the National, such was its popularity.

Great Britain is directed by National Theatre Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner, whose many credits include The History Boys, The Habit Of Art, Hamlet, Othello and One Man Two Guvnors.
