Goodbye Barcelona is a passionate new musical about a British mother and son caught up in the Spanish Civil War. Inspired by the true stories of the Brigaders, this is the story of Sam, who joins the International Brigades and goes to Spain to help fight the fascists in 1936, and Rebecca his mother who follows him there to find him.
Goodbye Barcelona is about the incredible things people can do when they feel compelled to act, and when they can no longer bear to just watch while other peoples lives are being destroyed. It is inspired by the Brigadistas, the men and women from around the world, who volunteered to help fight against Fascism in the Spanish Civil War.
The book is written by Judith Johnson, who has written plays for the Royal National Studio and the connection scheme at the National Theatre, with music and lyrics by KS Lewkowicz.
