Choreographer Arthur Pita ’s new full-length work God’s Garden brings to life the intensity and drama of village life through dance, text and live fado music.
God’s Garden is based on the parable of the Prodigal Son and set in the village of Porto Moniz, Madeira, high on a hill overlooking the sea. The golden boy of the Costa family flees on his wedding day, jilting his faithful bride in order to sow his wild oats. When the prodigal son returns, his family celebrates. However, though his jilted bride’s tears may water a thirsty garden, a wronged woman must take her revenge.
Pita’s previous commissions include Snow White In Black (National Dance Award for Modern Repertory) and Mischief (Time Out Award for Achievement in Dance). This new work features stage design by regular Royal Opera House designer Jean-Marc Puissant and a cast whose ages range from 26 to 82!
