Tommy Steele returns to the London Coliseum after six decades to perform a tribute to his biggest inspiration in The Glenn Miller Story.

Often stated to be Britain’s first teen idol and rock ‘n’ roll star, Tommy Steele is a living legend. He made his legitimate debut in Cinderella at the London Coliseum in 1958. Now, 60 years later, he’s returning to the London Coliseum to salute to his idol.

Glenn Miller was an American band leader who was famed for being the best-selling artist in the world from 1939 – 1943. In just four years, he and his band landed 23 number one records – more than Elvis and The Beatles. As soon as Tommy set ears on Glenn’s music, he was smitten and he worshipped the songs he created.

20 years after Glenn’s success, Tommy found himself at the top of the charts with Singing The Blues in 1957. Then, nothing could stop him. He wasn’t just featured on the radio waves, he was on the silver screen, too. In the same year, he filmed The Tommy Steele Story, and he later went on to star in Half A Sixpence and The Happiest Millionaire. He was also a star of the West End stage having appeared in Singin’ In The Rain, Scrooge, and Hans Anderson.

Now, at 81 years old, Tommy will pay homage to his inspiration with The Glenn Miller Story. It will feature the journey the legendary big band leader took to find his unique sound, and his subsequent fame and untimely death. Joining Tommy on stage is musical theatre legend Marti Webb, best known for her roles in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s shows Evita and Tell Me On A Sunday, and a full ensemble cast.

Along with Glenn’s story, his music will feature, too. Be ready to hear songs like In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug, Pennsylvania 6-5000, Tuxedo Junction, Chattanooga Choo Choo, and many more era-defining favourites.
