Lesley Manville reprises her role in Richard Eyre’s acclaimed adaptation of Ghosts as it transfers to the West End following a successful run at the Almeida theatre.
Directed by Eyre, who won an Evening Standard Theatre Award for his work on the production, Ghosts charts the story of Helene Alving, a woman who has spent her life in an emotional void following the death of her cruel husband. Determined to escape the ghosts of her past, she tells her son Oswald the truth about his father, only to discover that he has already inherited the legacy of Captain Alving’s dissolute life.
Featuring a cast that also includes Jack Lowden, Brian McCardie, Charlene McKenna and Adam Kotz, the production is the second show to transfer from the Almeida theatre in 2013, following Lucy Kirkwood’s hit drama Chimerica, as well as the second play by Henrik Ibsen to transfer to the West End, after the Young Vic’s A Doll’s House played at the Duke of York’s theatre earlier in the year.
