Oswald comes home from Paris to honour his dead father. He soon discovers that there is more to his mystery illness than he had bargained for. And his mother starts to feel the presence of the ‘ghosts’ of the past all around her. Only the truth can set them free.
This production of Ghosts is inspired by Edvard Munch’s designs for the play, only seen once before, in 1906, in Berlin.
Ghosts is co-produced with English Touring Theatre, which Stephen Unwin founded 20 years ago. It will also mark his swan song as Artistic Director of the Rose.
Stephen Unwin has directed six productions of Ibsen, to tremendous acclaim, including an award-winning Hedda Gabler seen at the Donmar in 1998, and The Lady from the Sea with Joely Richardson at the Rose in Spring 2012.
