Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson’s worldwide cult phenomenon, Ghost Stories, returns to the West End to test the nerve of London theatregoers.
Having enjoyed performances in the West End, China, Australia, Canada and Europe – not to mention a film adaptation – Ghost Stories is the terrifying original live show from the maniacal minds of Nyman and Dyson. Exhilarating and terrifying, Ghost Stories tickets are only for the brave – audiences should be 15 or over.
Such is the secrecy that surrounds Ghost Stories that not much is known about the show’s plot. It is, however, a rollercoaster ride – 80 minutes of shocks, surprises and secrecy. It’s a love-letter to horror – dark, nightmarish and thrilling – sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. At the end of each performance, audience members are asked to keep the show’s secrets and maintain its reticent reputation.
Ghost Stories started life at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2010, before arriving at London’s Lyric Hammersmith later that year. It was previously seen in London at the Arts Theatre between February 2014 and January 2015, before being revived at the Lyric Hammersmith, its original London home, in March 2019. Now, it’s back in the West End, playing at the Ambassadors Theatre – more spine-tingling and terrifying than ever before.
Andy Nyman is an award-winning actor, director and writer, most recently seen in Fiddler On The Roof (Menier Chocolate Factory/West End), Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen (West End) and Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins (Menier). He’s also Derren Brown’s long-term collaborator, having created innumerable famous TV and stage moments, including the Olivier and Drama Desk Award-winning show Secret. Dyson, meanwhile, is well known as a member of the comedy group The League Of Gentleman.
In order to keep its surprise factor at a maximum, little is disclosed by the show by means of imagery or detail – so you can expect shocks, surprises and thrills in their multitudes. Just keep telling yourself it’s only a show.
