A trio of haunting monologues from a mysterious fishing community intertwines across eras in Fishskin Trousers, written by Elizabeth Kuti.

Playing in the Park Theatre’s smaller venue, PARK90, and using the power of words and storytelling, Fishskin Trousers weaves together the haunting tales of three lost people from different eras, united by the mysteries of the island of Orford Ness.

From the twelfth century, Mab gives an eye-witness account of the legendary Wild Man of Orford, caught in the nets of fishermen. Eight hundred years later, at the height of the Cold War, Ben, a young Australian scientist, hears strange noises on the Ness as he tries to fix the island’s radar system. Later, local teacher Mog, in 2004, is compelled to return home to Orford when struck with a terrible dilemma, and a heartbreaking decision.

Suffused by the landscape and traditional folk tales of East Anglia, these echoing voices intertwine to reveal how the stories of human lives connect in the most surprising and intimate ways, though decades – and even centuries – separate them.

Fishskin Trousers playwright Kuti won the 2006 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for her hit show The Sugar Wife. Her other acclaimed works include The Whisperers (A Trip To Bath) and BBC Radio 5 comedy series Teen Lurve.

The cast of Fishskin Trousers comprises Brett Brown (The Theory Of Everything), Jessica Carroll (Downton Abbey) and Eva Traynor (Hamlet, East Riding Theatre), all of whom reprise their roles from the show’s acclaimed Finborough Theatre run in 2013.

A haunting play about loss and grief, set in the mists of Suffolk, Fishskin Trousers is a fascinatingly absorbing piece of lyrical writing, arriving in London at the Park Theatre with a rich, thought-provoking and immersive experience which will intrigue and stun in equal measure.
