David McVicar’s colourful production of Gounod’s devilish opera features Angela Gheorghiu and Piotr Beczala reprising their roles as Marguerite and Faust. The story, set in the Paris of the 1870s, follows a man who sells his soul to the devil in return for more earthly pleasures.
