Julia Hollander poetically directs Tchaikovsky’s most famous opera. The sweeping melodies and passionate arias tell the story of thwarted love, duelling rivals and twisted romance. In 19th Century Russia, the stark divide between country and courtly life is epitomised by the remarkable change of Tatyana, whose rejection by Onegin sets the scene for the opera’s emotive journey.

Gerald Finley plays the suave Onegin for the first time in this production, alongside Catrin Wyn-Davies and Peter Rose. Jonathan Darlington makes his debut conducting for the ENO.
