Steven Pimlott directs Tchaikovsky’s tragic tale of love gone wrong in this new production.

When Onegin and Tatiana first meet, he dismisses her admission of love cruelly. However, when they meet again years later the roles are reversed and it is Onegin who gets the brush off. Though Lensky and Olga’s love seems indestructible, when Onegin involves himself, things take a turn for the worse again.

Tchaikovsky first decided to base his opera around Pushkin’s verse novel because of its "intimate and powerful drama… which can touch me to the quick."
