Edward Hall opens his first season as Artistic Director of Hampstead theatre with this chilling modern mystery by Shelagh Stephenson, Enlightenment.
Exploring the lengths people go to to find the missing pieces of their lives, Enlightenment tells of a young man who disappears on a backpacking holiday to South East Asia. His parents are left in a state of turmoil, and desperation takes them down avenues they would never have previously contemplated. Then they get a phone call claiming that he has been found.
Enlightenment playwright Stephenson is no stranger to Hampstead theatre; her Laurence Olivier Award-winning play The Memory Of Water premiered there in 1996. Her other plays include The Long Road and Mappa Mundi.
