Howard Davies and Howard Brenton join forces once again to present the world premiere of Brenton’s play about the Partition of India and Pakistan.

Inspired by the conversations Brenton had during his visit to India in 2009, Drawing The Line tells the story of Mr Justice Cyril Radcliffe, who was sent on an extraordinary mission to draw the border that would divide the Indian sub-continent into two new sovereign dominions.

With only six weeks to complete the task and no knowledge of cartography, Radcliffe was unprepared for the dangerous world of political intrigue, religious and racial turmoil, and blood feuds into which he plunged.

Three-time Olivier Award winner Davies, who previously worked with Brenton on his critically acclaimed 2012 hit 55 Days, has enjoyed a successful career, most recently directing Rory Kinnear’s debut play The Herd and Children Of The Sun at the National Theatre.

Brenton’s work was last seen at the Hampstead theatre in May 2013, when his play about freedom of speech in a civilised society The Arrest Of Ai Weiwei played at the venue.
