Do We Look Like Refugees?! is a verbatim play created from interviews with Georgian refugees displaced due to the 2008 August War.
Alecky Blythe, who specialises in creating verbatim plays, spent a week in refugee settlements in Gori and Tserovani, Georgia, in autumn 2009. There she listened to stories of those who fled their homes after the August War in 2008. The result is Do We Look Like Refugees?!, a poignant and surprisingly humorous play which intertwines stories of love and enterprise in a temporary refugee settlement which is inevitably evolving into a permanent small town.
Blythe’s previous verbatim work includes The Girlfriend Experience, which played at the Royal Court and Young Vic. Her latest work, London Road, plays at the National Theatre this spring.
Do We Look Like Refugees?! features five actors from Rustaveli theatre and is performed in Georgian, with English surtitles.
