Hit musical Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage brings the action and music of the iconic movie to London’s Aldwych theatre.
Following the Houseman family, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage tells of a vacation at popular holiday camp, Kellermans, where their youngest daughter, Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, meets Johnny Castle, a dance teacher from the wrong side of the tracks. There begins a classic love story through which audiences learn that love can conquer all barriers and that nobody puts Baby in the corner!
The iconic film Dirty Dancing, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, was released in 1987 and has since become the benchmark by which all chick flicks are now judged. All the hits from the film’s soundtrack, including Do You Love Me?, Hungry Eyes, She’s Like The Wind and Time Of My Life, are featured in the stage show along with some new numbers. The story has been re-written for the stage, but includes all of the movie’s memorable moments as well as some added scenes.
Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage was first performed at the Theatre Royal Sydney, Australia, in November 2004. It followed this success with a sell-out 18 month tour of Australia and New Zealand. In 2006, the German production opened in Hamburg, while the London production opened at the Aldwych theatre later that year.
During the course of just one performance of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, the actress playing Baby has a total of 21 costume changes. The whole cast of 35 has 55 hip-swivelling songs to sing and 73 scene changes.
