Samantha Barks, Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser star in this major revival of Cy Coleman’s classic of 20th century musical theatre, City Of Angels.
A celebration of all things film noir, City Of Angels tells the story of a New York novelist for whom Hollywood finally comes knocking. He receives an offer that is simply too good to refuse; to turn his paperback private eye into a hero of the silver screen. But the siren songs of LA prove a treacherous temptation and though his movies may be black and white, his new life becomes all too colourful.
Fraser, who plays writer Stine, returns to the Donmar Warehouse where he previously played Aufidius in Coriolanus. His musical theatre credits include playing both Marius and Javert in Les Misérables.
Craig, who plays Stine’s wife Gabby, received an Olivier Award nomination for her leading role in The Light Princess at the National Theatre, and has previously starred in Finding Neverland at the Leicester Curve and Ragtime at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Barks, who plays missing girl Mallory, rose to fame in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for an actress to play Nancy in Oliver!, I’d Do Anything. She went on to appear on stage in Cabaret and Les Misérables, before taking the part of Éponine in the big screen adaptation of the long-running musical.
