Following a successful run at the Almeida theatre, Lucy Kirkwood’s new play transfers to the West End.
A co-production with acclaimed theatre company Headlong, Chimerica tells the story of photojournalist Joe, who captures the moment a Chinese citizen confronts a convoy of military tanks during the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square.
A provocative play that examines the changing fortunes of the two countries comprising its title, the play follows Joe, 20 years after he captured the moment of history, as he strives to discover the truth behind the unknown hero he caught on film.
Directed by Lyndsey Turner, the cast includes Stephen Campbell Moore, Benedict Wong, Claudie Blakley, Elizabeth Chan, Vera Chok, Karl Collins, Trevor Cooper, Nancy Crane, Sean Gilder, Sarah Lam and Andrew Leung.
