Three works from three of the Royal Ballet’s greatest creative figures: Ninette de Valois, Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan.
Checkmate, by de Valois, sees the familiar chess pieces play out a battle between Love and Death to a score by Arthur Bliss.
Ashton’s Symphonic Variations is a show piece for a sextet of dancers and blends classic technique with flowing movement.
MacMillan’s episodic Song Of The Earth follows the figures of Woman, Man and The Messenger on their journey through life, and is performed to Mahler’s song cycle.
