Holly Hunter stars as Hester Swane in Marina Carr’s new drama. Swane is a traveller who lives in the mysterious swampy landscape of rural Ireland, close to the Bog of Cats. She has an unearthly and deep connection with the land and we meet her when she is burying a black swan who died in the night. Hester is tormented by the memory of a mother who deserted her and has defied her nomadic heritage to settle with a local man called Carthage, with whom she has had a child.
