Following the success of Jonathan Dove’s Flight in 2008, British Youth Opera presents a new programme of intriguing and little performed operas in association with its regular orchestra Southbank Sinfonia.
A double bill of Rossini comedies, Il Signor Bruschino and La Scala Di Seta (The Silken Ladder) shows the composer in his most inventive and sparkling form. A rich gallery of characters lead the audience through a double helping of cunning plans, farcical misunderstandings, mistaken identities and inevitable happy endings.
The British Youth Opera’s Rossini Double Bill is performed in repertoire with The Rakes Progress, and is sung in Italian with English surtitles.
