Something Big is happening at the Dominion Theatre this autumn. The family favourite Tom Hanks film is hitting the West End stage as a musical, starring The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness!
Revisiting the hilarious and heart-warming story of a boy who magically becomes an adult overnight – bringing childlike innocence and imagination to the world of business – Big The Musical tickets are sure to be in huge demand, as the show makes its West End premiere.
Big The Musical began life in Detroit in January 1996, before opening on Broadway later that year, receiving five Tony Award nominations. It was recently revived for a 2016 UK and Ireland tour, which saw Jay McGuiness originate the central role – and he now returns for its huge London transfer!
Jay plays 12 year-old Josh Baskin, who, on the verge of adolescence, just wants to be Big already. But when he stumbles upon a mysterious Zoltar machine, his wish is granted – and Josh finds himself trapped up inside an adult’s body! Living and working in a grown-up world, his unique disposition has a transforming effect on all the adults around him.
The show will also star former Girls Aloud singer and Strictly Come Dancing runner-up Kimberley Walsh as Susan Lawrence, opposite television icon and Olivier Award winner Matthew Kelly (You Bet!; Stars In Their Eyes and Of Mice And Men at the Savoy Theatre) as George MacMillan, and Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters as Mrs Baskin.
The musical has Tony-nominated music, lyrics and book by David Shire, Richard Maltby and John Weidman respectively. Morgan Young directs and choreographs this production.
The show also has set and costume design by Simon Higlett, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, video design by Ian Galloway, and sound design by Terry Jardine and Avgoustos Psillas.
Big The Musical marks Jay McGuiness’ second West End leading role within a year; he’s also starred in Rip It Up – The 60s at London’s Garrick Theatre in early 2019. He rose to fame as part of successful boy band The Wanted, and went on to win the 2015 edition of Strictly Come Dancing, as well as the celebrity version of Channel 4’s Hunted, raising money for Stand Up To Cancer.
You won’t have to wish for them yourselves – Big The Musical tickets in London’s West End can be bought below through Official London Theatre!
