Philip Massinger’s classical drama tells the story of a Middle-Eastern ruler who comes out of hiding in order to try and reunite his people. His efforts are undermined, however, by the all-pervasive Roman Empire, with threatens sanctions to any state which offers him or his followers sanctuary.
