A delightful romantic comedy about taking a chance on your fellow human beings, David Eldridge’s brilliant new play Beginning has made an acclaimed transfer to the West End.

Following a sell-out run in the Dorfman, Justine Mitchell and Sam Troughton reprise their critically acclaimed roles as Laura and Danny in Beginning, a West End must-see smash-hit. Upon its world premiere at the National Theatre,  Eldridge’s masterful new play was heralded as the perfect (anti) romance for 21st century London.

Every story starts somewhere. It’s the early hours of the morning and Danny’s the last straggler at Laura’s party. The flat’s in a mess, and so are they… so… one more drink?

What follows is a funny and tender tale about the first fragile moments of risking your heart and taking a chance with a stranger.

Playwright Eldridge’s theatre credits include Market Boy (National Theatre), Holy Warriors (Shakespeare’s Globe), Miss Julie and The Lady From The Sea (Royal Exchange); In Basildon and Incomplete and Random Acts Of Kindness (Royal Court); and Under The Blue Sky (Royal Court/West End). He also wrote the screenplay for the ninety-minute BBC Two film The Scandalous Lady W, which was broadcast in August 2015 starring Natalie Dormer.

Polly Findlay, whose previous credits include As You Like It (National Theatre), Derren Brown: Svengali (West End) and Limehouse (Donmar Warehouse), directs. With design by Fly Davis, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Paul Arditti and movement by Naomi Said, Beginning is produced in the West End by the National Theatre.

Acclaimed by critics and audiences during its sold-out run, the premiere production of Beginning opened in October 2017 in the NT’s Dorfman Theatre, and now returns to the West End by popular demand.
