Catherine Tate makes her Stephen Sondheim debut in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Assassins at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

The Tony Award-winning musical, which centres on the unusual topic of presidential assassins, takes a look at the 13 people throughout history who have tried – and in some cases succeeded – to assassinate the President of the United States. It questions society’s viewpoint that these criminals are maniacs or misfits who have little in common with either each other or the rest of us.

Tate, best known for her hugely successful BBC comedy sketch show, will be joined in the cast by Ghost Stories creator and Derren Brown collaborator, Andy Nyman, and musical theatre regulars Carly Bawden, Simon Lipkin, Mike McShane and David Robert.

Directed by Lloyd, whose other recent productions include Urinetown The Musical and the Martin Freeman-led Richard III, the cast also includes Stewart Clarke, Harry Morrison, Aaron Tveit and Jamie Parker.
