Homeland star Damian Lewis returns to the London stage to lead David Mamet’s dark heist comedy American Buffalo.

Directed by Sheffield Theatres’ acclaimed Artistic Director and Olivier Award-winning actor Daniel Evans, Lewis plays the role of Walter “Teach” Cole, one of three small-time crooks who decide to plan one big-time heist.

Alongside fellow criminals Donny Dubrow and Bobby, their plan soon spins into a tragedy of errors as greed overtakes loyalty in Mamet’s seminal tale of the fickle nature of honour among thieves.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Lewis is best known for his appearance as Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody in the hugely successful US series Homeland, for which he earned his pair of accolades. His other credits include Steven Spielberg’s HBO miniseries Band Of Brothers and ITV’s hugely popular adaptation of The Forsyte Saga. He is also soon to star as Henry VIII opposite Mark Rylance in the BBC adaptations of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies.

On stage Lewis has appeared in 2009’s The Misanthrope opposite Kiera Knightley, Five Gold Rings at the Almeida and the National Theatre’s 2005 production of Henrik Ibsen’s Pillars Of The Community.

Considered a classic of the American canon and recognised as one of Mamet’s masterpieces, American Buffalo premiered at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre before opening on Broadway in 1977. The play was subsequently adapted into to a 1996 film starring Dennis Franz, Dustin Hoffman and Sean Nelson.
