Ivo Van Hove, the internationally renowned director behind the Barbican’s 2009 immersive epic Roman Tragedies, brings Arthur Miller’s dark tale of obsession to the Young Vic.
Largely considered to be based on a real-life story relayed to Miller several years prior to the play’s conception, A View From The Bridge centres on Eddie Carbon, the tragic hero who betrays his principles and the trust of those around him to pursue an obsessive desire.
First staged on Broadway in 1955, the tragic drama was heavily revised for its London premiere, focusing on the viewpoint of Eddie’s wife to create a devastating emotional punch beneath the dramatic realism.
