When Mel Brooks tells you to “see it before you die – or you’ll regret it forever!”, it’s probably best to listen. London audiences have just a few months to do just that, with the announcement that Young Frankenstein will depart the West End to embark on a major UK National Tour this Summer.

The show, which was nominated for Mastercard Best New Musical at this year’s Olivier Awards ceremony, will play its final performance at the Garrick Theatre on Saturday 25 August.

And having enjoyed just under a year’s West End residency for Young Frankenstein, fans of the titular tap-dancing green monster can look forward to an Original West End Cast Recording of the production, set for release through outlets in July this year.

Brooks commented: “Thank you London audiences for embracing Young Frankenstein and for making us such a smash hit in the West End. I’m so happy that soon the rest of the UK will get a chance to see it.”

Young Frankenstein is a hilarious musical from the brains behind The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs – the legendary filmmaker and comedian Mel Brooks. Mel’s all-singing, all-dancing musical comedy, directed by Tony-award winning Broadway director Susan Stroman, opened in the West End in October 2017 to rave reviews and 3 Olivier Award nominations.

Immortalised in the 1974 movie, the musical of Young Frankenstein sees the Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced ‘Fronk-en-steen’), inherit a castle in Transylvania – where he discovers he has a familial reputation for the maniacal and hedonistic to uphold.

The first UK tour of the show will commence in September 2019, with full venue details and dates to be announced later this year.
