Dreamboats And Petticoats

Wynter comes to Dreamboats

First Published 19 November 2012, Last Updated 15 August 2018

Venus In Blue Jeans singer Mark Wynter will roll back the clock to the era when he was a pop chart regular this week when he joins the cast of Dreamboats And Petticoats.

The recording star, who had nine hit singles in the early 60s before choosing to bid pop goodbye for a career as an actor, will combine both aspects of his working life when he joins the cast of the 60s-set jukebox musical to play the father of a wannabe pop star.

The singer-turned-actor has performed in hit musicals before – his CV boasts The Phantom Of The Opera, Cats and South Pacific among many others – but never singing his own songs. Though for most of Dreamboats And Petticoats he will be playing a role, the finale will find him reliving his past, performing renditions of Go Away Little Girl and It’s Almost Tomorrow.

Dreamboats And Petticoats joined the list of hit London musicals in 2009, when it opened at the Savoy theatre before transferring to the Playhouse theatre the following year. The show, which tells the story of two boys hoping to win both a national song writing competition and the heart of the gorgeous Sue, features a host of classic 60s songs, including Let’s Dance, Bobby’s Girl, Runaround Sue and Let’s Twist Again. After closing at the Playhouse theatre earlier this year, it reopened at the Wyndham’s theatre for a winter return to London’s West End.
