Lindsay Posner’s hit Menier Chocolate Factory production of the classic comedy Abigail’s Party will transfer to the Wyndham’s theatre from 15 May.
The revival of Mike Leigh’s seminal 1977 play, which opened at the Chocolate Factory in March, will move to the West End venue following the premature end of The King’s Speech.
The show’s original cast, which includes Jill Halfpenny, Joe Absolom, Natalie Casey, Susannah Harker and Andy Nyman, will make the leap across the river from the Southwark venue with the production.
Best-known for her long-running role in EastEnders, Olivier-Award winner Halfpenny stars as Beverly with fellow former soap stars Absolom and Casey as Tony and Angela.
Set in 1970’s suburbia, Abigail’s Party sees a party hosted by Beverly and her husband Laurence turn from an evening of drinks and cheesy pineapple nibbles into a night of unmasked prejudices and flared tempers.
The production, which is booking until 1 September, will arrive at the Wyndham’s theatre following the tale of George VI’s struggle with his speech impediment, which ends its run on 12 May.
