The Royal Shakespeare Company’s hugely successful stage adaptations of Hilary Mantel’s Man Booker Prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies will transfer to Broadway for a 2015 run.
Following the shows’ critically acclaimed runs both at the RSC’s home in Stratford-upon-Avon and in the West End, the historical epics will arrive in New York for a run at the Winter Garden Theatre in the city’s iconic Broadway district from 20 March.
Renamed for the New York run Wolf Hall Parts 1 and 2, the productions will once again be led by Ben Miles in the demanding role of Thomas Cromwell.
Packed with political milestones, religious scandal and, of course, royal romantic dramas, the plays take a detailed look at the Tudor court and Cromwell’s rise to power against a backdrop of infamous historical characters from King Henry VIII (Nathaniel Parker) to Anne Boleyn (Lydia Leonard).
The ambitious productions were adapted by RSC regular Mike Poulton and directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Jeremy Herrin, who will make his Broadway directorial debut when the shows transfer.
London audiences have until 4 October to catch the productions, which can either be watched as a double bill or as standalone pieces, at the Aldwych Theatre.
