Neil Armfield’s acclaimed production of David Hare’s The Judas Kiss will transfer to the West End following its current run at the Hampstead theatre.
Starring Rupert Everett and Freddie Fox, The Judas Kiss will play from 9 January (press night 17 January) to 6 April at the Duke of York’s theatre.
The entire cast, which also includes Cal Macaninch, Ben Hardy, Kirsty Oswald, Alister Cameron and Tom Colley, will transfer with the production.
Focusing on two critical moments in Oscar Wilde’s last years – the eve of his arrest at the Cadogan Hotel and a night in Naples after his release from prison – The Judas Kiss offers a fascinating insight into the relationship between the 19th century Irish writer (Everett) and British author Lord Alfred Douglas (Fox).
When it opened at the Swiss Cottage venue last month, Armfield’s production was described by The Guardian’s Michael Billington as “the most convincing dramatic portrait of Wilde that I have come across”.
The Judas Kiss, which will come to the end of its run at the Hampstead theatre tomorrow, will transfer to the Duke of York’s following the third and final play in the Royal Court’s West End season Constellations, which plays from 9 November to 5 January.
