The long-awaited West End transfer of Caroline, Or Change, starring Sharon D Clarke, has confirmed full casting.
Joining the Olivier Award-winning actress Clarke, who plays the titular role of Caroline Thibodeaux, are Naana Agyei-Ampadu, Keisha Amponsa Banson, Alastair Brookshaw, Me’sha Bryan, Angela Caesar, Dujonna Gift-Simms, Sue Kelvin, Teddy Kempner, Ako Mitchell, Abiona Omonua, Vincent Pirillo, Tanisha Spring and Lauren Ward with Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, Zalika Henry, Laura Medforth, Timothy Quinlan and Teddy Wills.
Nine young performers have been cast in the roles of Noah, Jackie and Joe. Isaac Forward, Aaron Gelkoff and Jack Meredith will alternate the role of Noah, Mark Mwangi, Kenya Sandy and Jeremiah Waysome will alternate the role of Jackie and the role of Joe will be alternated by Josiah Choto, David Dube and Raphael Higgins-Hume.
Caroline, Or Change is the celebrated musical written by Angels In America’s Tony Kushner, with a soaring score from the Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home). The show won the 2007 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
Directed by Michael Longhurst, this revival played a critically acclaimed run at Chichester Festival Theatre and then the Hampstead Theatre this year, scoring its West End transfer. Official London Theatre described the show at the Hampstead as “quite unlike any other!”
In 1963 Louisiana, revolution is in the air – though not for Caroline, a poorly paid maid who toils endlessly in the Gellman household’s basement. But for Caroline – and eight-year-old Noah Gellman – it’s a fantastical place, with magical laundry and singing washing machines. But Oliver’s about to put the winds of change to the test.
