Official London Theatre and Twitter have partnered to bring users Theatre Twitter Talks, a series of conversations with the industry’s biggest and most influential names at Twitter HQ.
The Tony Award record-holder and legendary stage star Audra McDonald joined us for our very first theatre #TwitterTalks at 4pm this afternoon (Friday 25 August).
You can watch the broadcast via the @TwitterStage account.
The inaugural Q&A was hosted by Jamie Lambert. Fans were encouraged to tweet their questions via #TwitterTalks, as Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar & Grill star McDonald answered your questions about her career, her current West End debut run in the musical, and her celebrated time in London, live from London’s Twitter headquarters.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre, said: “Theatregoers are some of the most engaged and passionate fans on the internet and so we are thrilled to be partnering with Twitter to give them the chance to interact with their favourite stars.”
“London is home to the world’s greatest theatre talent and so it’s fitting that we’re launching with one of the industry’s most acclaimed and decorated performers who has taken the city by storm with her debut West End performance.”
Alice Beverton-Palmer, Twitter said: “We’re excited to bring the #TwitterTalks format into the world of theatre alongside OfficialLondonTheatre.com. So far, chart stars such as HAIM, Olly Murs and Zara Larsson have been interviewed on the Twitter UK sofa, and now it’s the West End’s turn.”
“We’re delighted to launch with a true theatre legend, Audra McDonald, talking to the six-time Tony Award winner as she makes her West End debut. From here, you can expect the #TwitterTalks interview series to bring the brightest stars of the London theatre scene direct to their fans and followers on Twitter.”
