If you have ever wanted to discover more about London’s theatre district, or delve into its spookier side, Theatreland Walking Tours could be the answer.
The annual weekend West End wanderings are now on sale again and in 2012 offer something new.
From April and throughout the summer Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein will lead theatregoers on a new route through the West End, exploring the history of the famous centre of entertainment. Among the treats to be unearthed are the home of a 17th century playwright and the premises of a theatrical costumier who unwittingly abetted a murderer’s attempted escape.
If such nefarious shenanigans only whet your macabre appetite, Burstein has a more devilish tour for the autumn months, as she unearths tales of theatrical betrayal, bereavement and bloody murder in the West End.
Theatreland Walking Tours, which cost £9.50 and take place on Sundays, are run by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), the association that represents producers, theatre owners and managers of the 52 major commercial and grant-aided theatres in central London.
