If you live in London, you can’t turn a corner without seeing Lucy Briggs-Owen and Tom Bateman adorning the side of a bus or staring out at you wistfully from a tube poster. Such is the hype surrounding Lee Hall and Declan Donnellan’s stage adaptation of the 1998 hit film, and following the outpour of critical acclaim when it opened last month, the hype proved to be more than justified.
When we met the two stars playing William Shakespeare and his muse Viola De Lesseps in the screen to stage romantic comedy back at this year’s West End LIVE, however, press night and even previews were yet to come and the thrill of their first fittings of Elizabethan dresses and neck ruffles was still fresh.
