There’s just 72 hours to go until the 40th anniversary Olivier Awards with MasterCard takes place at the Royal Opera House. While rehearsals are underway, last minute tux fittings are taking place and host Michael Ball practices his script, we imagine there are a fair few nominees beginning to feel those nervous butterflies begin their excitable flutterings…
The last time we saw them, however, there were no nerves on show as they gathered to mark their achievements at the exclusive Nominees’ Celebration with a glass of Champagne and the chance to sit down with the Official London Theatre team and reflect on how they felt to be recognised by the awards this year.
Yesterday we brought you the musical nominees, so today we celebrate the talent nominated in the play categories from individual performers Kenneth Cranham, Michele Dotrice, Phil Dunster and Catherine Steadman to those representing nominated productions, O-T Fagbenle and Jemima Rooper.
Watch the videos below to find out their feelings on being nominated, the advice that has helped them get to where they are today and why they believe theatre is so important.
Kenneth Cranham, nominated for The Father
Michele Dotrice, nominated for Nell Gwynn
Phil Dunster, nominated for Pink Mist
O-T Fagbenle, star of nominated show Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Jemima Rooper, star of nominated show Hand To God
Catherine Steadman, nominated for Oppenheimer
