For more than 30 years, Forbidden Broadway has been taking a warm-hearted, acid-tongued pop at all things musical theatre. Anyone who’s anyone in the world of jazz hands, high kicks and lyrical virtuosity has been lampooned by writer Gerard Alessandrini.
Yet it is only now that the song-filled satire has made it to the West End, where it will run at the Vaudeville Theatre from today (9 September).
With a ‘home-made’ take on iconic costumes, a silly streak a mile wide and the addition of US star Christina Bianco who, in addition to being a stunning singer in her own right has a talent for impersonating famous songstresses, the musical sketch show is set to take Theatreland by storm.
We met stars Bianco and Anna-Jane Casey at the transfer’s launch to find out about changing audiences, taking aim at your peers and why theirs is the only show you need to see.
