Halloween theatregoers could be in for a ghoulish treat at new hit production Urinetown The Musical.
For the spookiest night of the year the terrifyingly tuneful tale could have an auditorium full of zombies, witches and all manner of things that go bump in the night as it will be offering top price tickets for just £20 to theatre fans who turn up to its home at the Apollo Theatre in fancy dress and say the word “Splat” to box office staff.
Why “Splat”? Because one ‘lucky’ pumpkin-headed monster or bride of Frankenstein will be drawn at random from all the freaky fancy dressers to be splattered with blood – stage, we hope! – by the cast at the end of the show. A suitably bizarre and gruesome prize from a suitably bizarre and gruesome show.
The acclaimed cult hit first played in London at the St James Theatre earlier this year, when the tale of a city ravaged by drought to the extent that personal toilets are banned proved so successful that it earned a West End transfer.
In this city one man controls all the public conveniences, making a pretty pound out of everyone else spending a penny. Anyone unable to pay their porcelain dues gets a one way ticket to the mythical Urinetown. But there’s revolution in the water, if only a hero would rise to lead it.
The hit show, which stars Jenna Russell, Jonathan Slinger and Matthew Seadon-Young, and is directed by Jamie Lloyd, is currently booking at the Apollo Theatre until January 2015.
